"Often, when I say I work in digital, people assume that I'm an IT guy with an engineering background, which is not the case. Actually, I went to university for marketing.
There are a lot of functions within digital. The ones that I'm in charge of are CRM, which is basically about our customer loyalty program; e-commerce, which is selling online; and mobile.
I think what's really specific about working in digital in the beauty business, is that everyone asks, 'But how can you suggest products, sell products, cosmetic products online when you don't have a beauty advisor? You can't touch the product you can't try it.' Actually you realize it's a great challenge, but you have many ways to do it. You have ways of counseling online, giving services, giving ratings and reviews, going through social media. I got this opportunity to work in Japan, I was really young and I didn't have that much experience.
People here in the group really trusted me, thinking I had the potential to work in Japan, so that was really a huge step in my career at L'Oréal.
What's really exciting about L'Oréal is that you have this opportunity to really take opportunities, grab chances, whenever they are here, and that nothing is written. And it's not only about where you see yourself in three or five years, but how it gives you the possibility to have a career or plans that you didn't expect.
Digital is very new within the group, so what's challenging and really exciting every day is to develop new things, to develop and create things that have never been done before within the group.
The L'Oréal culture and expansion is really to have this vision and not wait for the trend to be already settled but to be able to anticipate the trend. So I think this is really specific to what L'Oréal does best.
